inART / Inclusive Arts. A journey through the senses, hosted by the Athens Municipal Gallery, facilitating accessibility for children with blindness

The inART program aims to enhance accessibility to cultural institutions for the visually impaired, alongside their active participation in the creative arts as a means of self-advocacy. The project is based on the principles of psycho-social integration, by providing therapy through practicing art and visiting museums as its main tools, supported by the extensive experience and specialised methodology of AMAKA (Funded by the Ministry of Culture/2020/ Points of Support, the Ioannis S. Latsis charitable foundation & the Bodossaki foundation).

The purpose of inART is to reinforce the access opportunities to Art and culture for the visually impaired children but also the social role of cultural institutions. A special team of educators, art therapists and psychologists will undertake the task of planning tailored workshops that will use as inspiration selected works from the Athens Municipal Gallery, inviting participants to interact with them in a creative way.

Within the framework of the project, the following will be implemented:

  • multi-sensory workshops for children with blindness as well as mixed workshops for children with or without disabilities
  • customised multi-sensory guided tours by/and for the visually impaired
  • a multi-sensory exhibition at the Athens Municipal Gallery
  • a training seminar for professionals, on the accessibility for people with disabilities in culture

Accessibility services for people with visual impairments, designed and implemented by the cultural organisation liminal.

The program is carried out under the support and funding of the Ministry of Culture, with the valued contribution of the Culture, Sports & Youth Organization of the City of Athens (OPANDA) and the Athens Municipal Gallery.
